Portfolio

I have been fortunate to work on many fantastic projects. Below is a small sample of some of them.

Curious Nature

A playful, interactive exhibition aimed at family audiences that explored a flagship project to sequence the genomes of 25 species of flora and fauna from around the UK.

  • Four people looking at an exhibition wall. Exhibition heading says Curious Nature
  • A woman reads an exhibition label next to a wooden bee hotel mounted to the exhibition wall
  • Exhibition voting interactive comprising two tubes labelled yes and no, and green plastic tokens. A question printed on it asks: Should we control one species to protect another? The yes tube is slightly more full
  • Young woman reading an exhibition label for a photograph mounted to an exhibition wall, the detail of which is not clear.

Defeat the helix

A gallery-based experience pitching visitors against an alien foe stealing genetic information. This was a novel gamification of real scientific processes developed for families and young adults. Developed alongside the gallery experience was a bookable escape room experience.

hidden lives

Using archaeological discoveries made metres from the gallery, this exhibition charted thousands of years of history of a place and the bigger picture that the interface of archaeology, history and genomics can help reveal – and what it cannot.

Sherlock Holmes: the man who never lived and will never die

This flagship major exhibition imaginatively constructed the life of one of the greatest detectives that never lived. Utilising audio-visual content, objects, and immersive design this exhibition examined the creation of the character, its many iterations and the real-world influences on the literary invention.

  • Bank of TV scrrens along a wall showing clips from different Sherlock Holmes productions

Genome Gallery

I was appointed to devise and deliver on a brand-new gallery space at the Wellcome Genome Campus to re-focus its public engagement approach. Leading the project from project initiation through to opening, my focus was then to develop new audiences through a public programme of exhibitions and events.

Doctors, Dissection and Resurrection MEn

A major exhibition examining the murky world of medical science in 19th century London. Drawing on archaeological evidence, including skeletal remains, as well as objects, high-profile loans, and audio-visual content, the exhibition navigated a challenging subject using creativity and sensitivity.

  • Crowds look at display cases in an exhibition

Open saturdays

Bringing informal public access to the Wellcome Genome Campus for the first time, Open Saturdays were a monthly initiative that I developed as part of a burgeoning public programme for this scientific research campus. Visitors could explore exhibitions, tour research facilities, participate in hands-on activities and talk with scientists.

British science festival 2022

I had the pleasure to work with the British Science Festival as a Freelance Programme Manager for the 2022 Festival, held in Leicester.
